Why we do it

Too many good kids’ clothes end up in landfill.

Across the UK, hundreds of thousands of tonnes of clothing are thrown away every year. A huge share of that is children’s clothes that have simply been outgrown – not worn out.

Upsized gives families in Wetherby a simple way to keep great clothes in circulation, cut waste, and turn that everyday decluttering into funding for youth and family projects.

Textile waste

Thousands of tonnes

UK households send huge amounts of clothing to landfill every year – much of it still wearable.

Hidden carbon cost

High CO₂ impact

Growing, making and transporting clothes uses energy and water. Reusing them for longer lowers the footprint.

Local upside

Support for families

Every swap pass and supporter membership helps build a fund for youth hubs, family support and small grants.

Community projects your clothing will help fund

The Upsized Community Impact Fund turns swap passes and supporter memberships into real projects for children and families in Wetherby and the surrounding villages.

Several times a year we run a supporters-only vote. You’ll help decide whether we back things like a youth hub, emergency clothing support, village mini-grants or school sustainability projects.

Example projects

  • Wetherby youth hub sessions & activities
  • Crisis clothing packs for local families
  • Mini-grants for village groups & schools

How decisions are made

  • Ideas gathered from local families & partners
  • Shortlisted by the Upsized CIC team
  • Supporters vote online on what we fund next
• Transparent updates on funded projects• Supporters-only voting rounds

Coming soon: live supporter poll

This panel will show a live snapshot of which project supporters are backing right now. For launch, it’s a simple illustration of how voting will look.

How Upsized works

A simple loop: you pass on good-quality children’s clothes, local families find what they need, and any surplus helps grow a community impact fund.

1

Book a doorstep collection

Choose a convenient slot and bag up clean, good-condition children’s clothes. We collect from your doorstep in Wetherby and nearby villages.

2

Swap, shop & support

Your items are sorted for our town-centre events. You use swap tokens or shop low-cost rails to get the next sizes your children need.

3

Grow the Impact Fund

A portion of event income and every £10/month supporter membership flows into the Upsized Community Impact Fund for local projects.
