Event snapshot

What to expect on the day

  • Beautifully organised rails by age, size and season.
  • Friendly volunteers to help you find what you need quickly.
  • Token-based swaps so families can take home great items without a big bill.
  • Simple £7 trade fee per swapping household, plus optional top-ups for premium brands.

Upsized CIC is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company. Every swap helps fund youth and family projects locally.

How the 6 December event works

Upsized keeps things simple and fair. Donate before the event to earn tokens, then use those tokens on Saturday 6 December to choose the clothes you need for your growing children.

  1. 1. Donate before the event: Sort clean, good-condition children’s clothing and book a doorstep collection or arrange a drop-off.
  2. 2. We quality-check & award tokens: We check items for condition and brand tier, then credit your household with tokens as a thank you.
  3. 3. On the day: Browse the rails and pay a per-event £7 trade fee at the checkout and use your awarded tokens to “spend” on your selected items instead of cash.
  4. 4. Keep the circle going: When your child outgrows what you’ve taken home, donate again and repeat at the next event.

Tokens never expire and can be rolled over to future events if you can’t make it or want to save them for another season.

What a typical donation might achieve

Donation

A bag of 10–15 items (tops, trousers, a jumper, a coat), in good, clean condition.

Tokens

Enough tokens for a full refresh in the next size up — for example, a few tops, a jumper and bottoms.

On the day

Pay £7 trade fee, use your tokens to swap, and optionally add a small top-up for higher-tier brands.

Exact bundles vary, but everything is explained clearly at check-in so you always know what you can take home.

Tokens, trade fee & brand tiers

To keep swaps fair and celebrate quality, we group items into simple tiers — from everyday supermarket basics to high street, sportswear and designer pieces. Your tokens broadly match the tier of what you donate, and you can always move up by paying a clear, capped top-up on the day.

  • Green tokens: supermarket & value brands.
  • Blue tokens: high-street favourites.
  • Sports tier: sports & performance brands.
  • Gold tier: premium & designer pieces.

On 6 December there’s a £7 trade fee per swapping household. This covers venue hire and helps keep the service running.

If you pick something in a higher tier than your tokens, you’ll pay a small upgrade instead of full retail — for example +£9 for one tier up, +£14 for two, and +£19 for three. This keeps great coats and premium pieces accessible without being snapped up unfairly.

Why it’s set up this way

Upsized CIC isn’t trying to maximise profit; we’re trying to maximise fairness, accessibility and the number of garments kept in circulation.

The trade fee and top-ups help cover real costs — hall hire, storage and sorting — while still making it genuinely affordable for local families to clothe growing children.

Why this Wetherby event matters

Across the UK, hundreds of thousands of tonnes of textiles are burned or buried every year — many of them still in perfectly wearable condition. Children’s clothes are a big part of that, simply because little ones grow so quickly.

Upsized flips the script. Instead of throwing away outgrown jumpers, coats and school trousers, we keep them moving from family to family, right here in Wetherby and the surrounding villages.

  • Families save money on the basics they need every single year.
  • Good clothes stay in use for longer, reducing waste and emissions.
  • Event income and supporter subscriptions help fund future youth and family projects.

When you join us on 6 December, you’re not just topping up a wardrobe — you’re helping to build a fairer, more sustainable town for local children.

Impact preview

Launching Wetherby’s circular children’s wardrobe

This first Town Hall event sets the tone. The more bags we receive beforehand, the fuller the rails — and the more families we can support.

After the event we’ll publish live stats: items re-homed, estimated kilograms of textiles diverted from landfill, and early progress towards a future Wetherby youth hub.

Who this event is perfect for

  • Parents with bags of outgrown children’s clothes cluttering cupboards.
  • Families who want to save money while still dressing kids in great-quality items.
  • Eco-conscious households who hate waste and love community-led solutions.
  • Grandparents, carers and foster families helping kit out little ones.

Even if you haven’t donated yet, you’re welcome to visit, explore and learn how Upsized works. You can always donate before our next event and earn tokens for a future swap.

What to bring on the day

  • Your name and email address, so we can debit your tokens.
  • A reusable bag or two for taking home your swapped items.
  • The £7 trade fee (card only, this is a cashless event), plus any upgrade surcharges.
  • Any last-minute donations in good condition (we’ll process these for future events).

Please avoid bringing damaged or heavily stained items — this helps us keep rails joyful and easy to browse.

Event FAQs

A few quick answers about the Wetherby Town Hall event. For more detail, see our full How it works page.

Do I need to book to attend? +

Booking isn’t required to enter the hall, but donating in advance and booking a collection makes sure you have tokens ready to use on the day. Walk-ins are welcome while capacity allows.

Can I come if I haven’t donated yet? +

Yes. You’re very welcome to visit, learn how Upsized works and browse the rails. To swap, you’ll need tokens from a donation, but you can donate before a future event and use your tokens then. Book a collection ahead of the event day and you'll have tokens to spend.

Is there parking nearby? +

Wetherby Town Hall is in the centre of town with several public car parks a short walk away. Please allow a little extra time to park, especially in the morning.

Can I bring buggies and children? +

Absolutely. This is a family-focused event. We’ll manage numbers inside the hall to keep things comfortable for everyone.

Ready for Saturday 6 December?

There are two simple ways to get involved. If you can, donate before the event so we can sort and prepare your items in advance. You can also let us know what you’re bringing on the day so check-in is quick and your tokens are ready.
